PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s export of frozen durians to China is set to double this year, said Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong.
Ever since Malaysia’s frozen durians – minus the thorny shell – entered the Chinese market last year, they have been a hit with consumers, he said at the ministry here.
Chua, who is a big fan of the fruit himself, added that durians from Malaysia were favoured over those from Thailand due to the better aroma, taste and flavour.
“The projected export of frozen durians from Malaysia to China is between 350 tonnes and 500 tonnes a year for the next three years.
“This is against the 150 tonnes, valued at RM11mil, between May and December last year,” Chua said, adding that this amount was processed from 600 tonnes of fresh fruits and just 0.002% of the 313,000 tonnes of durians worth RM1.4bil produced last year.
“While the export of frozen durians is expected to grow rapidly, the ministry will seek approval from the Chinese authorities to also sell them fresh durians,” he said, adding that Malaysia had the facilities and technology to export fresh durians.
Chua added that the rising export of durians would not affect prices in the local market as they represented a very small percentage of the production.
Nonetheless, he said the hectarage for durian plantation would be expanded following a high probability of assured growth for frozen durians.
“The market for Malaysian durians in China is at its infancy stage and marketing efforts will be directed towards developing and enhancing consumer acceptance,” he said of the vast market potential in China with a population of more than 1.3 billion.
Last year, Malaysia exported fresh durians worth an estimated RM18.5mil to Singapore, against RM15.4mil in 2010.

蔡智勇：大受歡迎 出口中國榴槤料倍增

（布城13日訊）農業及農基工業部副部長拿督蔡智勇指出，政府預料今年出口至中國的冷凍榴槤數量增加兩倍。
他說，我國去年將冷凍榴槤出口至中國，獲該國人民喜愛，並指我國的榴槤比泰國更勝一籌，主要因為我國榴槤的香氣濃郁，口感、風味更佳。
“從大馬到中國的冷凍榴槤，預計出口量為每年350噸至500噸，將持續3年。”
蔡智勇昨日在部門指出，去年5月至12月期間，出口榴槤數量為150噸，總值1100萬令吉。
他透露，除了出口冷凍榴槤，該部門也有意向中國有關當局尋求出口新鮮榴槤的批准，並補充我國已有出口新鮮榴槤的科技及設備。

Chinese officers explain the details of durian exportation.
(Raub 24/8/2011) Language will no longer be a problem for those farmers who keen to participate in durian exportation.
As well-known species of Raub’s durian possesses great potential in exportation, the Government was hence concerned about the supplies chain of durians and FAMA will arrange its Chinese officers to explain the details of exportation through a series of dialogue session held with farmers.
The deputy minister for Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Chua Tee Yong visited Sg Kran and the farmers on Aug 15 whereby problems faced by local farmers were recorded. Nine days after the dialogue session, FAMA officer Mohammad Fauzi came to visit the head of village of SG Ruan, Sg Ji Liu and Sg Chalek.
Although the species of durians in Raub was good in quality and being one of the most welcomed delicacy of its durian lovers, farmers recorded to participate in durian exportation programme are recorded low according to the statistic.
As Raub is one of the main supplier of durian in the country, FAMA will pay second visit to Raub on September 30 so as to ensure local durian farmers will not miss or to participate in enjoying the benefit in exportation. The coming seminar will be conducted in Mandarin and officer will explain the procedures of exportation, such as the frozen facility food processed technology, the application of SALM and Good Manufacture Practice (GMP), document sigining and transportation etc.
The seminar will be held at the Raub district hall, beside these three villages, the authority will also invite the other main durian plantation farmers such as Dulai, Sg Chedang, SangLee and Sg Cheroh.

We are happy FAMA can arrange a briefing mainly for Chinese farmers.

SALM certificate is an important recognition, and also the quality assurance of durians.
Based on the limited info we have, we do not know how to begin, hence we felt happy with the arrangement.

（劳勿24日讯）有意参与榴梿出口计划的种植人，不需再担心语言问题！
劳勿名种果王具有出口潜能，销售链是否顺畅也深受政府重视，因此，联邦农业销售局（FAMA）将安排华裔官员下乡，与有意参与出口的农民见面及说明相关细节。
登记出口人数不理想
农业及农基工业部副部长蔡智勇在本月15日到双溪兰与农民交流，并收集农民们在种植领域上所面对的问题。
相隔九天后，该局官员莫哈末法兹今天特别到双溪兰、双溪吉流及双溪查力村长会面。
虽然劳勿品质较优越的名种榴梿深受老饕欢迎，但根据劳勿联邦农业销售局的资料显示，迄今登记出口榴梿的种植人数不理想。
基于劳勿是国内榴梿货源主要供应市场，为了能够让农民们可以在出口领域上分一杯羹，联邦农业销售局将于9月30日第二度到劳勿，以中文向农民们讲解有关出口的程序，如出口冷冻榴梿所须具备的加工技术、卫生农耕农场鉴定证书（SALAM）的申请条件、良好生产规范（GMP）的申请条件，以及出口方面的条件签署及运输方法等。
通过说明会，让有兴趣出口榴梿的种植人，掌握好出口的程序及符合良好的种植条件。
活动暂定于劳勿县议会礼堂，除了上述三个新村，当局也将邀请主要榴梿种植区的都赖、双溪只登、生利及积罗等七个新村的农民参与。

我从事种榴梿这行业已久，虽然政府宣布出口政策已经有一段时间，可是却基于面对资讯问题，导致不知该从何做起。
很高兴联邦农业销售局能够再一次安排以华裔农民为主的汇报会，我期待这一天的到来。毕竟，这一路来，我们都只是道听途说，却不知该如何采取实际的行动。

农民们应把握机会，向联邦农业销售局申请良好农耕农场鉴定书（SALAM）。
这是很重要的一个认证，也是出产榴梿的品质保证。
基于农民们在这方面都面对有限的资料，以致不知从何做起。因此，对于联邦农业销售局进一步安排说明，是一件值得欣慰的事。
出口榴梿必须要有品质保证，鉴定书就是很好的证明。

我也同样面对资讯来源有限的难题。
身为一名种植者，我当然希望榴梿可以出口到外国，更何况是到人口庞大的中国市场。

她指出，9月30日的交流会，将会安排华裔官员到来讲解；因此，农民们不必担心汇报会上会面对语言问题。
她说，只有向联邦农业销售局注册后并符合所规定的条件，种植者的榴梿才能够出口。所以，她鼓励更多农民注册。
